Victory Monday

Too bad Vikings...you don't get one of these this week. How we let Kyle Boller knock us out of the playoffs is beyond me. It's embarassing.

However, today itself was really great. I will indeed be attending the Gophers/Union hockey game on Thursday with company, much to my happiness. Also, today was the day I received my Christmas present, which was going to be a new set of irons from my parents. My old irons were/are going to be five years old now this summer, and although they've served me well, by now they really are outdated and since I've gotten better at golf, I wanted some better clubs to go with.

Thus today my Dad and I went down to the cities to Golf Galaxy to buy my driver. We went there because they had the best deals price-wise and I already knew exactly what driver I wanted to buy. A TaylorMade R7 Quad. These babies came out new for the 2005 season at something like $499.99, but the day after Christmas they were happily marked down to $259.99. And I know that $260 still seems like an awful lot to spend for you non-golfers, but just imagine something really expenisve and nice that you wanted to buy, suddenly like 50% off and within your budget. It's a good feeling. So basically, I just picked up a driver which outclasses any driver I've ever owned previously by a factor of a million or so.

Then we made our way back North to Waite Park to go to their indoor domed driving range to look at irons. Unlike my driver, I had no idea what irons I wanted to buy, so a main criteria was the ability to hit lots of them on a driving range and pick out the best ones for me. This was a great idea. I ended up hitting about six different irons, and I eventually decided on a set of Mizuno MX-23 forged blades that I really hit well. An additional plus was that the guy running the dome at the time was great. He gave me all kinds of demo clubs to try, and he let me hit free range balls as long as I wanted. When I picked the irons out, he even custom fit them for me for no charge. Turns out I needed a one degreee change on the lie angle of the club, as well as a thicker grip. He was incredibly helpful, and the fitting was definitely worth going to the dome to buy my clubs. The irons will be ready tomorrow, so I'm going back to pick them up, and then I'm set!

All in all, this day definitely so far gets an A. And if I close out my third straight fantasy football championship tonight for the title and $150 total, it goes up to an A+.
