Item #2 is this close to home issue. (Note -- I generally don't bother to post about politics on here, because I figure most everyone reading knows my opinion on the world, and I know theirs in turn, so it's a moot point -- I'm making an exception here).
I find it amazing that unassuming little Minnesota made its way into the national consciousness over anything political. Personally, I think its ridiculous. Maybe that's because I'm not sensitive enough to the feeeeeeelings or isssssssues of other people. Well, that's my fault. However, this is America. Not Somalia. And while I certainly respect a person's right to practice their religion, this is also absurd. Where will the line be drawn? It seems today that the perpetual point of view of the liberal populace is that society must always make room for the minority. Society must always cater to the few in the name political correctness. I, on the other hand, am happy to take the opposite view -- which is there can be instances where the minority acquiesce to the societal norms of the majority. This is common sense. This is why people who are drunk and proceed to run a red light are charged with a crime. I wonder what would happen if a group of Christian cabbies got together and started refusing fares on the basis of religion. Actually, I don't wonder. The public outcry and condemnation would be deafening. Michael Moore and Al Franken would probably be monitored on aneurysm watch after their 784th denunciation of "fundamentalist Christian wackos" or something similar. Memo to cabbies -- if you believe in your religion so strongly, say a sincere prayer to Allah for assistance, quit your job, and go find a new one.
Item #3 -- buying myself a late Christmas present is fun, if a bit damaging to the checkbook.
